Its awards season in the green sector of the motoring industry and congratulations are due to Renault after its new Kangoo Van scooped the Green Van of the Year – Conventional Fuels Award at the Fleet Van Awards 2009.
The accolade was accepted by Andy Cockeram, Renault UK’s field operations manager, who singled out the company’s eco2 programme as the key to success.
“We’re delighted with the Kangoo’s latest award win, particularly as it recognises the expansion of our Renault eco2 programme to take in the van range,” he said.
“With fuel pricing and corporate environmental policy becoming ever more critical, the New Kangoo Van range puts forward a very strong case in today’s modern fleets.”
All Renault eco2 vehicles must emit less than 140g/km of carbon dioxide (CO2) and be manufactured in a plant that has been certified ISO 14001. The vehicles must also be 95 per cent recoverable at the end of their lifecycle and ensure five per cent of the plastics used are from recycled sources.
The existing Kangoo Van offers an impressive 54.3mpg on the combined cycle and is set to distance itself yet further from the pack by offering a class-leading 57.6mpg later this month with CO2 emissions at 130g/km.
According to Stephen Briers, Fleet Van’s editor-in-chief, who was part of the expert judging panel, the Kangoo was head and shoulders above the pack.
“The Kangoo was a clear winner – CO2 per tonne, gross vehicle weight and the manufacturer’s well thought-out approach to reducing the environmental impact, which includes manufacturing and recycling, make Renault a winner,” he said.
