Nissan to take reservations for LEAF

With a huge groundswell of interest, has set a goal to have at least 20,000 reservations for the LEAF by the time it is delivered in late 2010.

The LEAF, which Nissan is dubbing the “world’s first mass-market zero-emission car” will accept reservations in North America in spring 2010 with 22,000 people having already contacted the company since the car was unveiled in August.

Now Nissan will invite potential customers to opt-in and receive updates and information about the LEAF through a reservation system that will tell them when the is available for tests or to take home.

According to statistics from Nissan the strongest customer responses have been received in San Diego, CA; Tucson, AZ; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; and Los Angeles, CA. These areas are among the first markets where the will be available globally. Around half of those who have contacted Nissan report that they want to obtain the LEAF as soon as it is available.
