Daihatsu to debut six concepts in Tokyo

What Frankfurt was to European car makers, Tokyo promises to be for Japanese manufacturers as Motor, ’s mini-car specialist, lines up six for the event.

The concepts cars will be of four different vehicle series and they will stand alongside nine production vehicles at the show. One of the new vehicles will be the e:S concept (eco & smart) that achieves impressive fuel economy of 70.6mpg through improvements to technologies and the use of the start and stop system.

The e:S is based on a current platform with the wheelbase shortened to 2,175mm. Though it has compact dimensions, there is still room for four adult passengers and in addition to its compact body it includes slim, lightweight seats and the replacement of many materials with lighter versions that limit the vehicle weight to 700kg. It comes equipped with a 660cc mini-vehicle engine with a combustion control system as well as an idling stop system.

Also making its debut at the 41st edition of the show will be the Tanto Exe, which is based on the Tanto but with a lighter body and higher fuel efficiency. Daihatsu has plans to release the Tanto Exe in the near future.
