THINK is back in business

Scandinavian electric vehicle maker THINK is a celebrating a landmark day as production of its THINK City vehicle finally restarted.

One of the first urban electric vehicles has been given a new lease of life with the company’s manufacturing partner Valmet Automotive in Uusikaupunki in Finland. Valmet is a leading engineering and manufacturing services provider and also produces Garia and Fisker alternative vehicles as well as Porsche AG’s Cayman and Boxster models. It recently became a THINK shareholder and partner.

The restart marks significant progress for THINK which announced its recapitalisation earlier this year with major new investors coming on board. In recent months, the company has made several senior executive appointments from both the automotive and clean-tech industries, and has also won new contracts in the drivetrain supply business. THINK has also started the roll-out of sales into key European markets and so restarting production was essentially the final step in its rebirth.

Sales of the THINK City have started in selected markets such as Austria, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Denmark with the first fleet deliveries due before Christmas. The bulk of the sales have been made to municipal authorities and utility partners with government incentives.

The THINK City itself was the first electric vehicle to be granted certification with the European CE conformity mark and to meet EU homologation requirements.
