Swedes to push zero emission vehicles

With Sweden already established as one of the most environmentally conscious countries in the world it seems only natural that it should turn its attentions to vehicles.

Now, a Swedish industry-first electric automobile coalition has been established with the intention of advancing zero-emission, high performance vehicles.

The coalition is funded by SEK86million from a grant and features Automobile AB (for automotive engineering and manufacturing); Boston Power Inc (for lithium-ion batteries); in Sweden AB (for electric power trains); Innovatum (for project management); and Power Circle (Sweden’s electric power industry trade organisation).

Saab and Electroengine have already built demonstration models of a vehicle named the ZE Saab 9-3. The coalition now plans to build 100 more cars in 2010.
