There were plenty of reasons for new car enthusiasts to be excited at the 10th Auto Expo automobile show in New Delhi, India, as both Toyota and Honda revealed new concept cars.
Toyota unveiled its Etios concept, which is aimed at family users in India’s rapidly growing market. The company plans to use local parts to keep costs low and has developed both a saloon version with a newly developed 1.5litre petrol engine and a hatchback version with a newly developed 1.2litre engine. The Toyota Etios will be produced from the end of this year with annual sales in India expected to reach 70,000 units with exports also planned.
Meanwhile, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd revealed the Honda New Small Concept while also announcing plans to begin sales of a new model based on this concept in 2011.
A wide platform with a stable centre of gravity has been adopted to produce a highly efficient compact size with seating for five people. The Japanese manufacturer has said that it will strive to provide a new small sized vehicle that is “beyond the expectations” of customers and offer it an affordable price by leveraging its global parts sourcing network.
