Toyota plans sports versions of hybrids

Leave it to , the undisputed hybrid car leader, to take hybrids to a new level with several sports models planned.

The company has announced a gradual rollout in Japan of its newly developed G sports conversion car series which is based on the “G” associated with classic Toyota Sports models such as the Toyota 2000GT and the Celica GT-Four.

In among them, it is expected that there will be G versions of hybrid vehicles including the Prius and the GRMN sports hybrid concept that initially debuted at Tokyo’s Auto Salon.

The vehicles will be designed for customers who want to own a unique car with customised interior and exterior design as well as sports driving performance. The base vehicle is equipped with internal and external components that include sports suspension, aerodynamic parts and racing style seats.

The Lexus FLA and the FT-86 Concept will be among the vehicles featured, but there will also be conversion models and sports trim models of mass produced vehicle series such as the GRMN and G Series. Toyota plans to foster a motor sports culture by participating in grass roots motor sports events such as NASCAR in the US, and Formula Nippon and SUPER GT in Japan.
