Auris hybrid to make debut at Geneva

The all-new, production-ready Auris model will make its world at as part of ’s display.

The new model is only the second car to receive the carmaker’s Hybrid Synergy Drive technology. To be known as the Auris HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive) it forms a central part of the carmaker’s programme to introduce its full hybrid powertrain technology across its entire model range by the early 2020s.

Built in Britain at Toyota’s Burnaston factory, Auris HSD appears at Geneva ahead of it going on sale across Europe in the summer. It forms a key part of the new Auris 2010 model line-up, offering advanced clean engine technology within the competitive  C-segment.

Production plug-in Prius

Although the Auris is set to be one of the most important parts of the carmaker’s display this year, it will not be the only model set to shine at the Swiss show. Toyota will also make two European premieres; the production version of the Prius plug-in hybrid and the unveiling of a new electric vehicle concept called the FT-EV II.

Toyota’s next-generation fuel cell hybrid vehicle, the FCHV-adv, will also be on display, demonstrating one of the many potential future applications of Hybrid Synergy Drive.

In addition the new 2010 update of the RAV4 will be there, which, benefiting from Optimal Drive technology is likely to be ‘one of the cleanest competitors in the compact SUV’ market, the carmaker proclaims. There will also be a the FT-86 sports car concept when the show opens on March 4.
