Not just green but connected too, pioneering eco-friendly taxi service, greentomatocars has launched free Wi-Fi service in hybrid taxis.
After a successful 3 month trial period, the firm is installing Wi-Fi in all of its third generation Prius hybrid cars.
The company’s founders Tom Pakenham and Jonny Goldstone believe that harnessing the power of Wi-Fi and making it readily available in their cars will help them to meet the evolving needs of their customers.
The innovative service is offered free of charge to both account and cash customers alike, allowing tech-savvy passengers to connect to the Wi-Fi using netbooks, laptops and hand-held devices, such as the iPhone and BlackBerry.
The car hire firm solely uses Prius cars, as one of the greenest cars available on the market today, it helps drive down the company’s carbon footprint. The firm also uses carbon offset services to negate unavoidable emissions, making it one of the greenest ways to get around the city.
The company prides itself on providing a progressive service. Back in September 2009, greentomatocars became the first private hire taxi company to take bookings via Twitter. The Twitter bookings (or ‘twookings’) were introduced to give customers as many options as possible when making a booking; whilst the addition
of Wi-Fi to all new cars is part of the company’s commitment to make the passenger’s in car experience as enjoyable and productive as possible.
Tom Pakenham of greentomatocars comments: “Many customers spend a considerable amount of time in taxis – it seems only sensible that we enable them to make the best possible use of this time.
“We’ve already helped a number of passengers juggle the competing demands of working online while getting from A to B and we’re looking forward to building on this experience as we roll out Wi-Fi across our fleet.”
The firm also recently issued a notice that all its third generation Prius models have had the necessary IT upgrade to resolve the recently reported brake assist issue, which caused Toyota to issue a car recall. This was completed by Friday 12th February 2010 on all 27 Mark III Prius within the firm’s fleet.
