The cost of battery replacement is high - even if it works out cheaper than buying fuel for any other car, the fact it is a big capital cost certainly comes as a pain in the wallet. The answer is to lease the batteries with a maintenance agreement so that when batteries come to the end of their useful lives, they are replaced by the automaker. The old batteries can then be recycled (recycling rates for car batteries are very high, thereby minimising environmental impact).
