The automotive boom in China shows no signs of losing momentum as sales leapt by 55.8 per cent year-on-year in March to a record 1,735,100 units.
Figures released by the Automobile Association, the Ministry of Information Industry and cited by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that production in the country also rose by 57.7 per cent to 1,734,000.
Looking at a break down of the figures passenger car sales increased by 63.2 per cent over the month to 1,264,900, while production was up by 41.3 per cent to 1.3million units. Indeed over the first quarter of the year automobile sales have risen by 71.9 per cent to 4.6106million units with sales of passenger vehicles up 76.3 per cent. January marked a record high as sales doubled to more than 1.66million units.
China established itself as the world’s largest auto market in 2009, selling 13.6million units. It remains ahead of the US, where light duty vehicle sales in March totalled 1.066million units.
