Volkswagen introduces new Touran

Fuel efficiency is at the heart of the new Volkswagen Touran which was introduced at the Auto Mobil International in Leipzig, Germany.

The vehicle, which holds a market share of nearly 50 per cent in its segment and across Europe, will feature a full range of more fuel efficient petrol and diesel engines.

Top billing goes to the Touran TDI BlueMotion Technology (77kW/103hp) which has a combined fuel consumption of 51.1mpg and emissions the equivalent of 121g/km of CO2. Also being introduced is a new entry level petrol engine which develops 175Nm of torque just above idle speed, consumes 36.8mpg and emits around 149g/km of CO2. This variant will also be available with BlueMotion technology, a start/stop system and battery regeneration that can reduce fuel consumption and emissions further – down to 40mpg and 139g/km respectively.

Two 1.4litre TSI engines will also be introduced – they have power outputs of 103kW and 125kW respectively. The 125kW version comes with a seven-speed gearbox, while the 103kW has a fast operating automatic gearbox.

An EcoFuel natural gas version of the new Volkswagen Touran will also be made available – it consumes 4.7kg of natural gas per 100km and has CO2 emissions at the equivalent of 128g/km. With a seven-speed gearbox, fuel consumption is reduced to 4.6kg/100km and emissions are just 125g/km.
