Having established itself as one of the biggest hitters in the Chinese market, General Motors continues to make in-roads into developing countries.
This time, GM Daewoo Auto & Technology, as well as Vietnam Daewoo Motor Company have launched the Chevrolet Cruze in Vietnam – a global model that will be based on the Lacetti Premiere which is sold in Korea.
The vehicle was launched as part of the Vietnam Daewoo Motor Company’s 17th anniversary with GM Daewoo President and CEO Mike Arcamone commenting that many of the 26million motorcycle riders in Vietnam are expected to switch to four wheels over the coming decade and that the firm will continue to roll out new models to attract the interest of new car buyers.
At the moment, the Vietnam Daewoo Motor Company is the second largest in the country’s passenger vehicle market with a 34.5 per cent share. It was established in 1996 and now has 537 employees with an annual production capacity of 20,000 vehicles including the GM Daewoo Gentra and Lacetti, as well as the Chevrolet Captiva, Spark and Vivant.
