Chinese carmaker Geely has unveiled two new electric vehicle concepts at the Beijing motor show this week.
One of China’s fastest growing carmakers, the brand, known for its recent purchase of Volvo, has also taken the covers off a new prototype called the IG (Intelligent Geely). An eye-catching car, first unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show 2009, the new IG is face-lifted from former single door and 3+1 seat layout to double seagull-wing doors and 2+2 seat layout now, while it retains its hybrid power and low-cost design.
Geely also brought to the show two new electric vehicle concepts too, the EK-1 and EK-2. The EK-1 is lead-acid battery powered vehicle capable of reaching 80km/h top speed and has a 80km range. Meanwhile the EK-2 is lithium iron phosphate battery powered with max speed of 150km and range of 180km and can recharge 80 per cent of battery capacity in 18mins.
The IG hybrid model comes equipped with GSG (Geely Stop and Go) system, which automatically switches the engine off when stationary to save fuel. Best of all the carmaker reckons that the IG would cost in theory for the whole car except for power-train mounting, just 10,000 chinese yuan (equivalent to just £960).
In addition, the car features solar panels which not only help to power the battery but have other functions too, such as to reduce the interior temperatures.
