As it continues to drive down fuel consumption, Volvo will make the new five cylinder two-litre turbodiesel engine that was originally introduced in the Volvo S60, available across its entire range.
The engine has been optimised for lower fuel consumption with the injection system featuring a new piezoelectric fuel injector that minimises the consumption with rapid and precise injection pulses under high pressure. The turbocharger has also been fine tuned to provide high torque for low revs.
When fitted in the Volvo S80, V7, XC60 and XC70 the vehicle produces 163hp and 400Nm of torque. If specified with the high performance D5 engine it produces 205hp and 420Nm of torque. All variants can be tied to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of the Volvo C30, S40, C70 and V50 the new two-litre turbodiesel is available with either the D4 with 177hp and 400Nm of torque; or with the D3 with 150hp and 350Nm of torque. Both meet Euro 5 emission standards.
Furthermore, Volvo will also upgrade the petrol engines of the Volvo S80, V70, XC60 and XC70 models.
