New Hot Rod shows potential of natural gas

Ever wondered about the capabilities of compressed natural gas as a vehicle fuel? Well, now the potential has been showcased in dazzling fashion thanks to the debut of the WJ Daytech/AFVTech CNG Hot Rod which was unveiled at the Alternative Fuels and Vehicles Show in Las Vegas.

The vehicle is based on a 1933 Ford Roadster and features a naturally aspirated CNG-fuelled LS-7 GM Crate Engine that has been built by Bob Santinoli with Riolo Racing engines and a six-speed automatic transmission. It delivers more than 600bhp.

Indeed power and efficiency combine on the model which can race from 0-60mph in 2.5seconds and from 0-100mph in less than five seconds. At the same time it is expected to hit an emission target of EPA bin 3 with trials still to be undertaken.

There are a host of exciting features in this high-tech Hot Rod including exhaust pipes with four catalytic converters and pre- and post-catalyst oxygen sensors; electric steering; an electric water pump; electric cylinder valves; carbon fibre HRE racing wheels; selectable traction control; and aircraft style gauges.

The Hot Rod also includes power doors and hood, power windows, and tilt steering.
