The Chevrolet Volt has been widely dubbed as the car of the future and now its drivers will have their fingers on the pulse of the latest technology.
OnStar is leveraging Google technology to develop a number of mobile application features for Volt customers including a new navigation tab. This allows the Volt owner to see the current location of their Volt pinpointed on Google Maps, as well as their location relative to it. From there they can use the Google search by voice to vocally seek out a destination using their headset.
In addition, they can send the destination from their Android phone to their Volt and have OnStar Turn-by-Turn directions waiting for them when they start their vehicle. Owners will also be able to use voice-guided directions to their vehicle from their existing location.
The smartphone mobile application for the Chevrolet Volt is expected to debut at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show before launching in tandem with the Volt during the autumn. It will include: charge status display; a display of the battery charge level; the ability to manually set grid-friendly charge mode for off-peak times; display of miles per gallon and electric only miles; and the ability to remotely start the vehicle to pre-condition the interior temperature.
