A brand new electric vehicle has been unveiled by leading automotive design group Pininfarina.
Known as the Nido electric vehicle it is designed to explore the electrification of a small city car and to develop a modular floorpan as part of the Nido Development Programme, a project for an electric car built entirely by the Pininfarina Style and Engineering Centre of Cambiano.
The prototype is propelled by a 125Nm synchronous permanent magnet motor and when fully charged it has a range of 87 miles, a top speed of 75mph and can accelerate from 0-60km/h in 6.7seconds. It can be recharged in around eight hours.
The vehicle uses a tubular steel frame for its body structure and has been designed to adapt to four different electric or hybrid vehicles – either a two-seater, a 2+2, a pick-up or a light van. The programme also envisages two larger versions – a hybrid with an engine positioned at the front and a motor at the rear; and an electric with a front motor.
In addition, the programme will look into solutions and lightweight components with a high electrical efficiency as well as energy saving solutions and braking systems specifically designed for hybrid and electric applications.
