Nissan LEAF achieves 2010 target in two months

Just how popular can electric cars be? Well if the initial success of the LEAF is anything to go by, it appears customers are chomping at the bit to get their hands on a zero emission vehicle.

According to Nissan, 6,000 reservations have already been lodged in Japan for the LEAF electric vehicle – meaning it has achieved its target for the whole of 2010 in just two months (bookings started on April 1).

Almost 60 per cent of the reservations have come from drivers aged 50 and older with the age breakdown reading as: three per cent drivers in their 20s; 13 per cent drivers in their 30s; 25 per cent drivers in their 40s; 25 per cent drivers in their 50s; and 34 per cent drivers in their 60s.

Now Nissan will continue to accept reservations for the vehicle ahead of its launch in Japan in December, 2010, with orders to be delivered on a priority basis in 2011.
