THINK makes the most of new battery technology

Scandinavian electric car maker THINK has started the production of its THINK City electric vehicles with new 22kWh lithium-ion battery packs from EnerDel.

The two companies have been working together for several years in an effort to perfect the THINK drive system with Ener1, the parent company of EnerDel, having invested in THINK and Ener1 chairman and CEO Charles Gassenheimer having become THINK’s chairman of the board.

According to Gassenheimer, the drivetrain business and the combination of the THINK drivetrain technology and the EnerDel solution gives the company a time-to-market advantage.

As for the vehicle itself, it can travel at highway speeds and for up to 99miles on a single charge. It is the first electric vehicle to receive certification from the European CE conformity mark and EU homologation requirements.

Production is currently under way in Finland with the first customers to come from selected European markets including Norway, Spain, Austria, Sweden and the Netherlands.
