Following on from Toyota’s $50million investment in electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors back in May, the two companies have furthered their partnership.
Tesla will now deliver two battery electric mules to Toyota by the end of the month which will combine the bodies of Toyota vehicles with the electric drive system of Tesla.
According to Tesla chief technology officer JB Straubel, the two engineering teams have made a lot of progress in a short space of time and the initial results are encouraging.
A report by CNN Money however, suggests that the Tesla project will be different to Toyota’s plans to introduce a tiny electric city car with a 40mile range. That vehicle remains under development but is intended only for short-term rental use within cities.
