Rapidly expanding China-based car manufacturer Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Company has outlined goals to sell two million vehicles globally by 2015.
The automaker has reorganised its research institutes to help it design more than 40 car models annually before 2015 and, according to Victor Young, the director of public relations for the company, the aim is to roll out more new car models faster and more efficiently.
During the first six months of the year, Geely enjoyed sales of 195,734 units – that’s up 42.1 per cent compared to the same period last year. Now it wants to sell 400,000 vehicles for the full year.
As part of its changes, Li Shufu, the Geely chairman, will become chairman of the board at the Volvo Car Corporation once the acquisition of the company from Ford is complete.
Volvo will retain its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden and will aim to strengthen its presence in both Europe and the USA while expanding into China.
