News in brief: China to establish electric vehicle association

As it furthers its efforts to be at the forefront of the electrification of the automobile, 16 state-owned enterprises in will establish the “Association of the Electric Vehicle Industry” next week.

Members of the association are expected to include Dongfeng Motor Corporation, China Dongfeng Electric Corporation, China First Automobile Works Group, China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock, China Changan Automobile Group, Beijing Nonferrous Metal Research Institute and China National Offshore Oil Corporation.

One of their first acts will be to establish unified standards on industrial technology. In the long run it is also expected to look into core electric vehicle technologies to improve the competency of self-owned brands in the global market.
