There have been plenty of upstart electric vehicle companies that have emerged in recent years which have ultimately struggled to get off the ground – however, now California-based CODA Automotive looks ready to fly.
The electric vehicle and battery systems manufacturer has entered into an agreement with a major global automotive manufacturer for the sale of zero emission vehicle credits. CODA is currently entitled to more than 50,000 credits under its planned 2011 California distribution of more than 14,000 five passenger, four-door all-electric saloon cars.
Under existing regulations a manufacturer must meet at least 22.5 per cent of its zero emission vehicle requirements with zero emission vehicles or zero emission credits.
Now a leading manufacturer has turned to CODA to help meet its quota with the CODA Sedan to begin limited deliveries later this year. It offers space for five and is designed to meet day-to-day needs with a 33.8kWh battery and a thermal management system that allows consumers to travel around 145-193miles on a single charge. A full recharge takes less than six hours, or less than two hours for a short 40mile commute.
Deposits for the vehicle begin this month at the company’s website.
