It’s been an exciting week for the state of Hawaii. First Nissan confirmed plans to launch an electric vehicle partnership there (see article) and now CODA Automotive has announced it will distribute the battery electric CODA to consumer and fleet customers in the third quarter of 2011.
Limited deliveries of the CODA Sedan will begin at the end of the year. The four-door, five-passenger car uses an all-electric drive system that includes a 33.8kWh lithium-ion battery system. Its proprietary battery management and thermal management system keeps the battery with a specified temperature range while also enhancing durability and safety and keeping consistent and dependable range of up to 120miles.
According to Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle, the arrival of the CODA Sedan represents another important addition to Hawaii’s efforts to transition to a clean energy economy. She stated that electric vehicle technology and the electrification of the transportation sector will play a critical role in helping Hawaii to reduce its dependency on the use of fossil fuels and to reach its 70 per cent clean energy goal by 2030.
The Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative was launched by the Governor and the US Department of Energy in 2008.
