News in brief: Daimler, Renault and Nissan to expand partnership

Vehicle manufacturers are continuing to cosy up as the industry moves towards electrification with Daimler, Renault and Nissan the latest to tighten their links.

In April this year, the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler AG announced a strategic co-operation that involved an equity exchange. Renault-Nissan took a 3.1 per cent stake in Daimler (the company responsible for brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Smart) while Daimler took a 3.1 per cent stake in Renault and a 3.1 per cent stake in Nissan.

Now, in an interview with Reuters, Daimler’s head of research Thomas Weber has announced that the company will further this co-operation. He declared that all three partners will work together on electric motors, batteries and powertrains.

No further details are available at this time but we’ll let you know more as soon as we have it at TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk.
