Peugeot’s new electric car breaks speed record

Peugeot has revealed a striking new all-electric roadster concept ahead of its grand unveiling on opening day of the Paris Motor Show.

The stunning new model is unveiled as the French carmaker prepares for the launch of its electric city car model, the iON and is designed to show the possibilities which electric drive offers the drive. Strictly a concept vehicle, the EX1 is revealed as the carmaker celebrates its 200th birthday.

Its streamlined aerodynamic body and its ultra-light all carbon fibre structure helps the car achieve impressive and sporting performance. In fact, the car just been confirmed as a record breaker. After a number of timed runs at the Linas-Montlhery autodrome, near Paris, the model has acknowledged by the FIA as the fastest accelerating electric vehicle over six different distances.

The car covered a standing quarter of a mile in 14.4 seconds, a standing mile in 41.09 seconds and a standing kilometre in 28.16 seconds. Its carmaker also claims the car is capable of 0-62mph in 3.55 seconds and a top speed of 161mph.

This series of records was established, by Nicolas Vanier, the famous
French explorer and film-maker (“The Last Trapper”, “Wolf”) who drove the
EX1 concept car.

The EX1 will be on display for all to see at Peugeot Avenue, 136 Avenue des Champs-Elysees, Paris from 22nd September to 14th November 2010.

Between now and the end of the year, China, the world’s largest car
market, will be the setting for the EX1 to pursues other world records.
