The IAA Commercial Vehicles Fair in Hannover is under way with Opel/Vauxhall stealing the show by unveiling a research project on a Vivaro e-Concept.
The electric van has a 249 miles extended range with 5.0cubic metre storage capacity and is able to carry 750kg of load. It comes with an 111kW electric motor that delivers 370Nm of torque and offers 62miles of pure electric driving range.
Of course the range extender comes into effect for longer, regional or shuttle services extending the total driving range to more than 400km. Engineers believe the Vivaro e-Concept is capable of driving permanently with engine and electric motor propulsion which will enable drivers to reach distant destinations. The batteries meanwhile have been situated under the floor of the Vivaro e-Concept where they are protected from the weather.
According to Chris Lacey, the executive director of international operations for Opel/Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles, the idea is to test acceptance of advanced propulsion technology among the commercial vehicle specialists attending the show.
