There was another debutant at the ongoing International Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover, where Renault took the opportunity to premiere the definitive version of the Kangoo Express ZE.
The Kangoo is the first all-electric van developed and built by a vehicle manufacturer and is expected to be sold in Europe for around €20,000. The vehicle should also qualify for subsidies such as the state subsidy of €5,000 in France. However, ownership of the vehicle will be separate to that of the battery with customers able to purchase or lease their Kangoo ZE van and take out a subscription on the battery from €72 a month.
So what does the Kangoo Express ZE have to offer?
The vehicle is 4.21m long and has a load capacity of between three and 3.5m3, as well as a load length of 2.50m and a payload of 650kg. The batteries – a 22kWh lithium-ion battery pack – are in the centre of the vehicle under the floor.
The electric motor has an output of 44kW and a maximum speed of 10,500rpm; with maximum torque of 226Nm. The energy efficiency is 90 per cent with low rolling resistance tyres used to improve energy performance.
Meanwhile, the Kangoo Express ZE also has a range of 99miles and features new functions such as pre-heating and pre-cooling during recharging.
