BMW has announced the test areas for a second round of trials in the US for its electric vehicle, the BMW ActiveE.
US cities to benefit from the trials include New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacremento, Boston, San Francisco and and parts of Connecticut.
The test trials of the vehicle- which is based on the BMW 1 Series- are set to start next summer, after the German carmaker made an announcement of its at the Opportunity Green conference in Los Angeles. The model which originally debuted in the states at last year’s Detroit Motor Show is believed to have a range of around 100 miles and a charge time of just four and a half hours.
BMW is already holding electric leasing trials of its MINI E in the US and in Europe. Feedback from the trials so far has been good, with users reporting that they enjoy the car’s quiet running and low operating costs.
The trails come ahead of the launch of BMW’s first full production electric car, the Megacity electric car, which is planned to go on sale in 2013.
