The biennial event will mark the debut of the M35h hybrid performance saloon car with sales due to begin next spring. It features an original parallel one motor/two clutch hybrid system with a decoupling 225kW 3.5litre V6 engine as well as a 270Nm electric motor and a seven-speed automatic transmission.
It has been described as the “driver’s hybrid” because of its high power output and strong rear wheel drive. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in less than 5.9seconds and has a top speed of 155mph. Its fuel economy is impressive however at 32.2mpg and with CO2 emissions of less than 170g/km.
The Infiniti M35h is able to cruise on electric power alone at a constant 80km/h on a level highway with electric mode utilised at speeds as high as 87mph. In slow moving traffic the M35h has an all-electric range of up to 1.24miles with Infiniti stating that in mixed driving it is capable of running in electric-mode for as much as 50 per cent of the time.
At the heart of its performance capabilities is the Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid system with two new technologies that are fundamental to its abilities. One is the lithium-ion battery pack that is twice as powerful as conventional batteries; and the other is the direct manner in which the electricity or petrol is delivered to the rear wheels, which boosts the vehicle’s overall efficiency.
The M35h also comes with new steering and braking technologies that have been designed to deliver environmental benefits and an enhanced driving feel with the steering using an electro-hydraulic system and the brakes using the electric drive motor to operate the brake cylinders.
