Volvo to introduce plug-in hybrid diesel car

Volvo has now confirmed that it will introduce a plug-in hybrid diesel car as early as 2012.

The plug-in hybrid is expected to achieve CO2 emissions as low as 49g/km with fuel consumption at 124mpg. The diesel engine will be optimised to run on renewable synthetic diesel and it will comply with future exhaust emission requirements.

Volvo Cars and energy supplier Vattenfall launched a pilot project back in January 2007 with the aim of testing plug-in technology – this led to the formation of the V2 Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle Partnership.

Now, at a Press conference at the Paris Motor Show, Stefan Jacoby, the president and CEO of Volvo Cars, confirmed that the future of Volvo lies with electric cars.
