Delphi reveals new controller for hybrid cars

Delphi Automotive is on quite the roll for new inventions and has now presented a new supervisory controller that co-ordinates individual propulsion systems and energy storage devices for hybrid cars.

The system will be suitable for all types of hybrids – ranging from micro hybrids through to full and plug-in hybrids – and can be mounted in the cabin or in the engine compartment.

Scheduled for production in 2012 it is based on an Infineon microprocessor and provides co-ordination for the engine and transmission electronics; as well as for the hybrid electric motor; the electrical energy storage; driver inputs; and system communication protocol.

It is based on Autosar standards for communication and will enable software development by either the vehicle manufacturer or a third party. A full software development tool chain is also available from Delphi.

In addition to being used in hybrid cars, the system will also provide a gateway function for communication buses particularly between FlexRay and Controller Area Network. It also supports an optional H-Bridge driver interface to a DC motor-type actuator.
