Aston Martin’s first green car confirmed for production

Aston Martin’s first ever city car has been approved for production. The luxury car maker will start manufacture of its diminutive Cygnet model- based on Toyota’s iQ car- early next year.

It will be the first time the car manufacturing firm, known for its James Bond favourite sumptuous and sporty models, will produce a vehicle which can be considered ‘green’.  Although CO2 emission ratings and MPG have yet to be confirmed at just three metres long, you can be sure that the model will offer a fraction of the carbon footprint of its sibling models which include the Vantage, DB9 and Rapide.

Cygnet

Aston Martin says that the Cygnet, first revealed as a concept car back in March at the Geneva Motor Show, will despite its size, offer all the comfort and opulence synonymous with the brand. It will be built at the firm’s production headquarters in Gaydon in Warwickshire.

“It is time to think differently. Aston Martin is honest and we don’t make compromises” says Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez.

“Whatever we do, we do right. If we do performance, we do performance; we don’t downsize or compromise our sports cars. The Cygnet needs to satisfy the demands of emissions and space. It is a car without compromise, just like every other Aston Martin.

“Our customers need a small car for urban and city use, and they want the right tools for the right job, to downsize creatively without compromising intelligence, artistry and personality, ” he adds.

Further details on the Aston Martin Cygnet including pricing and specification are set to be announced later this year.
