Toyota may be planning to introduce two new cars under the Prius name in the United States according to rumours circulating in the press.
According to media reports, the car maker’s dealers in the US have been briefed at an annual meeting in Las Vegas that a Prius station wagon will be hitting the roads next summer while the plug-in version of the Prius, already seen in concept form, will be available later in the year.
However, a spokesman for the Japanese car maker told The Independent: “I understand that there were a couple of concept cars on display for the US dealers but I know that Toyota President Akio Toyoda did not mention plans to release additions to the Prius family at that meeting.
"Having said that, we are definitely going to increase the number of hybrid models that we produce, although whether they will be part of the Prius range or completely new models, I really cannot comment," he added.
The Prius recently celebrated its tenth anniversary on 10/10/10, since sales of the car started in the US back in 2000. Recently surpassing global sales of 2 million, the Prius will reach its tenth anniversary of UK sales this Sunday (October 17, 2010).
