News in brief: Mercedes hybrid truck on way

We’re a step closer to the introduction of a Mercedes-Benz hybrid truck after the Eaton Corporation supplied key power technology for the Mercedes-Benz BlueTec Atego Hybrid.

The vehicle will be part of a new range of Mercedes-Benz Atego trucks and is the first hybrid truck in Europe to gain European Type Approval. It was named 2011 Truck of the Year at the recent IAA show in Hanover, Germany, thanks to its excellence as an urban distribution truck and for its innovative hybrid system.

Eaton supplies the system, which includes a lithium-ion battery pack and electric motor, while also working with Daimler to develop power management logic and controls.
