Hitachi and Johnson Controls have a signed a memorandum of understanding which will see the two companies work together on advanced energy storage.
They will look at opportunities to collaborate in both motive and non-motive advanced energy storage. This will include research and development; procurement; production; lithium-ion batteries; sales; and standardisation.
According to Alex Molinaroli, the president for Johnson Controls’ Power Solutions, there will need to be significant ongoing efforts to build a successful advanced energy storage industry. He believes that by combining their strengths, Hitachi and Johnson Controls have a great opportunity to succeed.
Currently, Johnson Controls’ Power Solutions is the world’s leading supplier of automotive batteries while Hitachi began mass-producing lithium-ion batteries in 2000.
