Nissan has revealed a new electric car concept, its version of the familiar Renault Twizy.
Developed in collaboration with its French counterpart, the new vehicle dubbed, the ‘new mobility concept’, is designed to meet the needs of a what the Japanese car maker identifies as a growing market; elderly and single households as well those in urban environments who only make short journeys or in smaller groups.
Nissan intends to trial using the vehicle in such scenerios as a ‘seamless mobility service where a highly efficient and convenient public transportation service links public transportation and EVs, or a ‘2-mode EV car sharing’, where the vehicle is used as a private commuter vehicle in the mornings and evenings, and as a corporate car during business hours.
Aiming to be a global leader in electric and zero emission mobility with Alliance partner Renault, Nissan is set to launch its first electric car, the Leaf later this year and in early 2011 in the UK.
In addition to the development and production of EVs, Nissan is also engaging in more than 80 zero-emission partnerships worldwide.
