General Motors is to team up with SAIC Motor Corporation to work on a number of core areas of its business including the development of new energy vehicles.
The companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding which will also see the creation of a stronger and more integrated Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre, which is the automotive engineering and design joint venture that works on vehicles of the future and powertrains.
It is hoped that the partnership will allow the companies to develop green cars and components while leveraging the best solutions from both parties and creating next-generation electric vehicle architecture for China.
They will also share an additional vehicle architecture and powertrain application in a bid to reduce development costs and benefit from economies of scale.
This furthers the long standing relationship between the companies with SAIC and GM’s Shanghai GM having sold around 843,000 vehicles in China during the first 10months of 2010.
