Renault has been told it can keep the ‘Zoe’ name for its forthcoming electric car model as a judge ruled that girls called Zoe did not face harm or a threat to their private life or dignity as a result.
According to news agency Reuters, Lawyer David Koubbi brought a case against the car maker’s choice of name on behalf of Zoes and two Zoe Renaults in particular. He is said to be planning an appeal of the decision.
The supermini model developed as part of the Renault’s alliance Nissan, takes its name from the words ‘zero’ and ‘emissions’ thanks to its all-electric drive. The model is due to go on sale in 2012 as part of a range of electric cars the French car maker has planned for launch in Europe.
Sadly though, Zoe just so happens to be the 11th most popular name given to girls in France according to L’Officiel des Prenoms, a list of the most popular names given each year, prompting complaints from Zoes who don’t want to share their name with a car model.
