Mitsubishi to send electric vehicles to Singapore

It’s not just Renault and Nissan forming electric vehicle partnerships around the world – Mitsubishi is also getting in on the act.

The car manufacturer and its distributor Cycle & Carriage Automotive PTE Limited have signed a co-operation agreement to collaborate on activities to popularise electric vehicles with the Singapore government.

It is expected that the economic development board of Singapore, which includes its energy market authority and land transport authority, will work on setting up an electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the country while evaluating the benefits of electric vehicles.

As part of the investigation, 25 Mitsubishi i-MiEVs will be used in the country from 2011 onwards.

Leo Yip, the chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board, commented that he is delighted Mitsubishi will be the first major electric vehicle supplier for the test bed programme. He believes there are significant opportunities in terms of battery management systems, power electronics and electric drive systems.
