Hybrid vehicles come to Canada

The fleet of hybrid electric vehicles offered by Purolator in Canada is set to nearly double after the company added 200 of the vehicles to its fleet, making it the largest of any logistics company in North America.

It is expected that 43 of the vehicles will head to the Halifax and Dartmouth fleet, meaning that the fleet’s operations in the city of Halifax will be 100 per cent hybrid electric. The efforts in Nova Scotia have been partly funded by Conserve Nova Scotia within then ecoNova Scotia Fund for Clean Air and Climate Change.

On top of this, a further 60 hybrid vehicles will be added in Guelph, with 19 to head to Niagara and 79 to be added to the Greater Toronto area.

The introduction of the hybrid vehicles are just the latest step by Purolator to go green – it has also introduced a strict no-idling rule for its drivers, as well as an optimisation programme that reduces overall distances travelled by vehicles and environmentally responsible packaging.
