Video game fans will surely rejoice at the name that has been granted for Chevrolet’s all-new, US built small car – the Sonic.
The vehicle is known as the Aveo in other parts of the world and will be sold in more than 50 countries. However, in Canada, Mexico and the United States, the Chevrolet Sonic name will be adopted.
Production of the vehicle will begin in 2011 at GM’s Orion Assembly Centre in Michigan, which was recently boosted by a $545million investment in upgrades and retooling to help restore around 1,000 jobs in the Detroit metropolitan area.
According to Chris Perry, the vice president of Chevrolet US marketing, the new name was important to symbolise a new era for the small car segment.
