The THINK City electric vehicle has received official classification as a zero emissions vehicle from the California Air Resources Board.
Approval from the board means that the company can now sell the THINK City in California and 12 other states and the District of Columbia, all of which have adopted California’s zero emission vehicle requirements.
The model from the Norwegian manufacturer has a range of 100miles and uses an advanced lithium-ion battery developed by Ener1. Approval from the Air Resources Board is seen as critical for fleet sales with the states that have adopted the requirements making up 35 per cent of the automobile market in the US.
It is expected that THINK will begin delivering vehicles to fleet customers soon with the company also planning to roll out retail distribution in select cities during the second half of 2011. Its timeline coincides with plans to expand production at its Elkhart, Indiana, manufacturing facility.
