News in brief: GM debuts new electric vehicle

An electric concept vehicle from Shanghai GM made its world debut at the 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show.

The GM Sail electric vehicle was one of 23 production and concept vehicles at the show and took pride of place alongside the extended range Chevrolet Volt. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery and has a maximum output of 65kW with a maximum torque of 220Nm. It can reach speeds of 81mph and can travel for up to 93miles on a single electric charge.

The vehicle was developed by Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre and is based on the Chevrolet Sail. It features regenerative braking and an Intelligent Charging Assisting System that maximises the energy conversion ratio.
