The North American International Auto Show marked the return of the diesel-powered S-Class saloon car to the US market.
At the event, Mercedes debuted the all-wheel-drive S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC which features a urea selective catalytic reduction emissions after-treatment system in which AdBlue is injected into the exhaust flow. This releases ammonia that converts around 80 per cent of nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and water in the catalytic converter. This means the vehicle already complies with the emission levels planned for 2014 with the introduction of the EU6 standard.
The S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC is powered by a 3.0litre V6 turbo-diesel engine that can produce 617Nm of torque and accelerate from 0-60mph in seven seconds with a top speed of 130mph.
In addition, the vehicle is equipped with the latest Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC all-wheel drive system with a number of measures aimed at minimising the energy needed to turn the extra gears and shafts to help improve overall fuel economy.
The Mercedes-Benz S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC now joins a greener S-Class line-up that also includes the S400 HYBRID.
