New Chevrolet Aveo to be built in Russia

An agreement has been signed between General Motors and Russian automotive manufacturer GAZ Group, to assemble the new Chevrolet Aveo at GAZ’s facility in Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia.

The vehicle will be produced from mid-2012 with about 30,000 expected to be assembled annually. They will be sold to the Russian market.

According to Jim Bovenzi, the president and managing director of GM Russia and CIS, it is important for GM to strengthen its market position in the country. He believes that leveraging GAZ’s resources will address the demand for affordable vehicles and continue to localise the product line-up.

The vehicle made its debut in hatchback form as part of the 2010 Paris Motor Show and was followed by a saloon version at last month’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
