Scrappage scheme for electric scooters launches

Electric scooter firm e-motive is to launch its own version of the Government’s highly successful scrappage scheme for cars-but for motorbikes and scooters instead.

Its ‘Ride Green’ scheme will allow anyone with a motorcycle or scooter with a current MOT – any age or condition – to part exchange it and receive a £500 allowance against the purchase price of a new e1 or e3 e-motive electric scooter.

e-motive scooters The trial scheme is being piloted during February and March by one of e-motive’s dealers, BVM-Moto www.bvm-moto.co.uk in Stroud, Gloucester and if successful it will be rolled-out across the country.

Virtually identical in appearance to their petrol powered equivalents, an e-motive scooter offers running costs of just 1 penny per mile.  Requiring little more than an electric charge every 70 miles from a domestic electrical supply, it needs no fuel, oil or spark plugs, and apart from tyres, is virtually maintenance free.

All e-motive scooters also come with a comprehensive two-year unlimited mileage warranty for the bike, while Silicon batteries carry a 12 month warranty, and 24 months for the Lithium Ion battery.

For added peace of mind, all new e-motive electric scooters also come with two years free AA roadside assistance.

Commented Paul Williams, managing director of e-motive’s importer, Koelliker UK: “At around 1 penny per mile, an e-motive scooter is cheaper than taking the bus!  It provides all the benefits of ‘go when you like’ personal transport without the hassle, while also doing your bit for the environment.

“With petrol prices now nudging £1.30p/litre, and the cost of public transport and car parking on the rise, an increasing number of people are beginning to explore how they can travel more economically.  Whether for commuting to work, shopping or just getting around and socializing, an electric scooter gets you there more cheaply; and with zero emissions, you’re not creating CO2 pollution and smelly exhaust fumes.”

An e-motive scooter can be charged-up from your standard 240 volt mains supply at home in around 6-10 hours. It is calculated to cost about 1p a mile to run an e-motive scooter, and you can recharge the batteries up to 2,000 times before they need recycling.  Under normal use, the battery should last up to three years.
