Demand for petrol in California increases

California may be leading the way as one of the greenest states in the USA, but that hasn’t stopped demand for petrol leaping in the area.

According to figures from the California State Board of Equalisation for October 2010, petrol consumption leapt by 0.9 per cent year on year, while diesel consumption actually fell by 3.8 per cent.

It found that Californians uses 1.257billion gallons of petrol over the month – up from 1.246billion gallons in the same month of the previous year. This is despite the fact that the average price at the pump had increased by 2.9 per cent year-on-year to $3.15 per gallon.

Meanwhile, diesel fuel sold in the state reached 216million gallons – down from 224million gallons in the previous year. Diesel prices had increased at an even sharper rate – averaging $3.21 per gallon, up from $2.86 per gallon in the previous year.

Figures for November are expected to be released at the end of this month.
