Rental giant Hertz, has announced it is installing over 2.3 MW of solar PV systems at sixteen locations across the US in the first phase of the company’s solar initiative.
The global car rental firm has already completed construction of a 235 kW solar electric system located at Denver International Airport. This system is expected to produce 342,766 kWh of AC output and will offset approximately 650,000 pounds of CO2 annually.
"Hertz is committed to reducing costs and to sustainable business practices. Investing in solar energy for these facilities makes good business sense," said Mark Frissora, Hertz Chairman and CEO. "We will now look to additional facilities in the US and internationally to further this important program. Once again, Hertz is leading the industry in our commitment to innovation."
The firm has made a name for itself for embracing environmental practices. With plans to add the Nissan Leaf to its fleet later this year and the installation of CNG refuelling stations at Los Angeles Airport to a commitment to reduced water usage, the firm is committed to driving down its environmental impact.
In terms of car rentals, Hertz offers a green car collection which includes around 5,000 hybrid cars.
